Stephan Mathé can look back on many years of experience in the media industry. After studying law at the University of Hamburg, he worked as a product manager for the games publisher Eidos and supervised several well-known video games. As a trainee lawyer, he successfully worked for leading media law firms, the Federal Review Board for Media Harmful to Young Persons in Bonn and the German Embassy in Canberra (Australia).
After being admitted to the bar in 2004, he founded his own media and commercial law firm, which advised leading games companies such as Disney, Sony, Warner and Sega. He was also a lecturer in media law at the Schwerin Design School, the European Media and Business Academy, the Hamburg Media Academy, the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences and the University of Magdeburg. Mathé has been a trained mediator and specialist lawyer for intellectual property law since 2009.
In 2013, Mathé successfully completed a master's degree in business administration at the Hamburg School of Business Administration as a scholarship holder of the Hamburg Bar Association. In 2015, he joined one of the largest law firms in Schleswig-Holstein as a partner, where he was responsible for the media law and intellectual property law departments. Stephan Mathé has also held the title of "Specialist Lawyer for Copyright and Media Law" since 2018 and has been a lecturer at the German Lawyers' Academy since 2020. From 2022 to 2023, Mathé was a partner at the renowned Hamburg media law firm Prinz before founding Mathé Law Firm on 1 April 2023.
For many years, one focus of Mathé's work has been advising companies, public figures, agencies and influencers. In addition, Stephan Mathé specialises in music law, where he represents numerous large national and international (major) companies in the music industry, both on the publishing side and on the label and artist side. These include Warner Chappell, ROBA, C. F. Peters and Schott Music.
